If possible, owls will reuse the same nest or house year after year, so choose your location carefully. The ideal site is at least 20 feet up a tree with a relatively open trunk. It's also a good idea to put a couple of inches of wood chips in the bottom of the house. If you live in the continental U.S., there are probably flickers in your area. Since they are one of the most common yard-nesting species, your chances of having them come to your flicker house are high. They rarely approach bird feeders, but they nest almost anywhere. Fill the house with sawdust before April 1 and a flicker will begin to "excavate" to create a home. |
